Remembering Slavery 2007

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the Parliamentary Act to abolish the slave trade in the British colonies. It was the beginning of a long journey to the eventual abolition of the trans-Atlantic slave trade in 1833. To commemorate the national anniversary, museums, galleries, libraries and archives across North East England have put together a fascinating programme of events, exhibitions and lectures, which will appeal to visitors of all ages and interests.

Don't miss the variety of events throughout the region, ranging from powerful exhibitions and absorbing lectures to interactive drumming sessions, hands-on African art workshops and family activities.

The Remembering Slavery 2007 programme of events and exhibitions across the North East is growing all the time. To find events in your area visit the Events Diary.
