Remembering Slavery 2007
2007 marked the 200th anniversary of the Parlimentary Act to abolish
the slave trade in the British colonies. It was the beginning of a
long journey to the eventual abolition of the trans-Atlantic slave
trade in 1833. To commemorate the national anniversary, museums,
galleries, libraries and archives across North East England put
together a fascinating programme of events, exhibitions and lectures.
Now the series of events and exhibitions is over, this site is being
developed into a reference point full of useful information, guidance,
images and links about the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The new site is
under construction and will be coming soon.
